How to Reinstate Your CNA Certification in New York

If you did not work at least seven hours or more during the two years prior to your CNA certification’s expiration date, you will need to reinstate your certification. In most cases, you can do this by scheduling an appointment to retake the Prometric CNA competency exam.

How to Transfer Your CNA Certification from New York to Another State

To transfer your CNA certification from New York to a different state, you will need to locate your new state's CNA regulatory agency first so that you can know what your new state’s requirements for allowing CNAs to work within its jurisdictions are. You can easily do this by using the search tool found on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing website. While many states simply require you to verify your current CNA status, you may also need to complete various continuing education classes, verify your CNA licensure and/or pay a transfer fee.
