AARP Dental Insurance Plans

AARP dental plans are provided by Delta Dental, a dental insurance company that covers more than 80 million people in the U.S. If you’re an AARP member, your acceptance into one of their dental plans is guaranteed.

Members can decide between two preferred provider (PPO) plans, which allow you to get dental care from any provider, though you pay more for care if the dental professional is outside of your network.

Members in some states also have a third option called DeltaCare USA, a dental health maintenance organization (DHMO). The DHMO focuses on oral health with routine cleanings and exams with little to no out-of-pocket costs to the customer. DeltaCare USA members must stay within their plan’s provider network to get covered. Only Arizona, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia residents can get DeltaCare USA dental insurance. If you live in another state, see more options on Forbes Advisor’s list of best dental insurance.

AARP’s Dental Provider Network

Both Delta Dental PPO plans provided by AARP allow customers to use any licensed dentist of their choice, while the DeltaCare USA HMO plan uses a network of dental care providers.

The number of network providers vary by state and plan availability. To find which providers are available in their state, customers can use the Delta Dental website “find a dentists” tool to search plan details and network availability.
